Decor and the pandemic: How to integrate a work environment at home

Author: Arianne Daoust-Hébert

Teleworking, which was not widespread before 2020, has now become a reality for many of us.

To stay motivated and focused, it is important to have a dedicated work space. No more working on the corner of the counter or on the dining room table! In this article, you will find tips on how to set up a workspace at home.

1- Delineate your space

Sometimes it is not possible to reserve a whole room for your office. In this situation, it may be worthwhile to set up your workspace in a dedicated corner of your home. If your office is in the living room or your bedroom, define the space visually. For example, use a carpet, wallpaper or wall decoration.

Our favourite idea:

Why not set up your office in a closet? This trick allows you to have a dedicated space and to close the door at the weekend to really get away from work!

2- Make the space inviting

We spend several hours a week working. It is therefore important that our work space is welcoming, warm and conducive to concentration.

To do this, choose a bright space, for example near a window. If this is not possible, install lights.

Also, prioritize light-colored furniture and colorful decorations. There's nothing more stimulating than a brightly coloured workspace!

3- Have the right furniture

We spend almost as much time on our mattress as we do in our work chair. It is therefore very important to choose a good chair. A good chair allows for proper adjustment, i.e. seat height and armrests.

Also, your desk should be at the right height for you. If you work with a laptop, consider raising your computer so that your neck always remains straight. If you can, get a desk that allows you to work standing up.

Good work!
